Sam Fender has given the full amount of his £25k honor prize money to the MVT, which operates to preserve the UK's independent concert spaces.

The star was awarded the award on October 16 as his third album his work was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the shows I did around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help 38 local spots across Britain.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The notion that funds from concerts in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," the star has commented.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they required updated gear," she shared with outlets.

Previously, the band contributed their funds to the youth organization that supported their act, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners they gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said singer Heather Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched another person's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by transferring them to local control.

One venue in the city and the other in the city were bought under the community ownership scheme, which is funded by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the properties.
